NORWEGIAN ELKHOUND
by Bonnie Turner
The Norwegian Elkhound is a bold and energetic hunting dog who can be traced back to the burial grounds of the Vikings, making them one of the oldest breeds. Today's dog remains virtually unchanged from ancient times. He is a medium sized, square profiled, gray coated, prick eared, curly tailed athlete who can endure cold, wet weather and rough terrain.
This extremely intelligent and very resourceful dog will always find the best air conditioning vent or sleep upside down in the shower stall. A wonderful companion who lives only to be with his family, loyal and loving he is extremely clean in HIS home. A dog who learns quickly to do almost anything if he thinks it is his idea he is a great watchdog of his children and yard. There are 2 difficulties with this breed: 1) The dog hunts by keeping his quarry at bay so he is a great barker and his coat must be maintained with frequent brushing. 2) In the spring and fall when shedding is heaviest, a weekly bath keeps hair in the house to a minimum.
