Yorkshire Terrier
"The Ultimate Toy!"
by Marsha Greene
The Yorkshire Terrier is a small blue and gold dog, originally bred in Yorkshire, England and used primarily as a ratter. The first record of a Yorkie in the United States was in 1872.
While small in size they retain the terrier spirit and are fun, outgoing and have no idea that they are diminutive in size. The correct Yorkie has a silk coat. They have hair not fur thus do not give off dander and are thus considered one of the three breeds to be hypoallergenic.
Yorkshire Terriers are considered to be a healthy breed and have a life span that can go into the very high teens. They are wonderful companion dogs and will train their owners to perfection. It has also been noted that they are addictive and one is usually not enough!!!!
